Good rains have been sparing the City of Joy for now. It is only from May 11 until May 17 that Kolkata recorded few on and off light rain traces. Since then, rains have not blessed the city. Whereas the other regions of West Bengal like the Sub-Himalayan West Bengal has been recording good spell of showers.
It is that time of the year when Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata receives good rain activity. This is evident from the fact that the average rainfall for the month of May for Kolkata stands at 133.1 mm. However, until date, Alipore Observatory recorded 16.1 mm and Dumdum Observatory recorded 9.5 mm of rains.
Moreover, currently both the maximum and minimum temperatures of Kolkata are settling above normal by 2 to 3 degrees. During the last 24 hours, the city recorded a maximum of 37.1°C and a minimum of 29.6°C.

Accordng to Skymet Weather, the weather conditions over Kolkata is not favorable for good rains. This could be due to the cyclonic circulation or trough over East India but it will concentrate weather activity over Bihar and Odisha.
However, pre-Monsoon activity is likely to commence again over Kolkata by the weekend, but then also rainfall will be in patches and no heavy showers are foreseen.
