In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, the Alipore Observatory recorded a whopping 67 mm of rain, while Dum Dum Observatory witnessed 48 mm of showers.
These weather conditions can be attributed to a trough that is extending from East Uttar Pradesh to Northeast Bay of Bengal. Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is seen over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Odisha Coast.

As per Skymet Weather, rain and thundershowers are expected to continue over Kolkata for the next 48 hours. Light rain with few moderate spells will show up. The nearby districts of Kolkata will also see some good spells.
However, as the circulation over Bay of Bengal is likely to move inland and strengthen further, the rainfall activity will increase over the coastal areas after 48 hours. Thus, the residents of Kolkata will continue to delight the Monsoon rains and pleasing weather conditions.
So far in the month of July, Kolkata has received 128.4 mm of rainfall against its monthly average of 396 mm. With more rain in offing, the city may surpass its monthly target.
