Monsoon rains have been doing miracles for Kolkata and the month of July has remained good for both the state and for the capital city Kolkata that has been witnessing good rains for a long time now.

Though the rain intensity has witnessed variation and from recording light spells in the initials days to heavy and extremely heavy rains, Kolkata has seen them all. The city has seldom remained rain-free. The last 24 hours were also rainy for Kolkata that has already surpassed its monthly mean with a huge difference.

In the last 24 hours, Kolkata, as predicted by Skymet Weather, has recorded a whopping 74 mm of rainfall. Counting on these rains, Kolkata has so far in the month of July recorded 547.1 mm of rains as against its monthly mean of 396 mm of rains thereby surpassing its monthly mean by approximately 150 mm of rains.

The reason for these heavy rains as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to a low-pressure area which is over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand. As this system is expected to persist over the region for another 24 hours, Kolkata can brace for some more good rains to continue for at least another 2 days.

However, thereafter, this weather system is expected to move in the northwest direction and will gradually weaken thereby resulting in the rainfall activity over the city to reduce. Henceforth, the intensity of rains over Kolkata is likely to reduce but scattered showers with one or two moderate spells are likely to continue for another couple of days.
