Vigorous Monsoon conditions have battered Kolkata with extremely heavy rains on Monday. In span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, the City of Joy has recorded 94 mm of rain, submerging several parts of the city.
At present also, rain bearing clouds have been hovering over the city and Monsoon showers over Kolkata and nearby areas may begin anytime now. In fact, one or two places must have already been started recording rains.

In wake of this, weather has gone extremely pleasant and day temperature which has been settling above normal is presently hovering around 27°C.
According to Skymet Weather, an east-west trough has been running from Northwest Punjab to Northeast India across Gangetic West Bengal. Another north-south trough is seen running from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal till North Bay of Bengal.

Bothe the troughs have kept the Monsoon surge vigorous over West Bengal, with many places recording heavy to extremely heavy showers.
Now also, weather conditions remain conducive for good showers to continue over Kolkata during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, rains will take a back seat but light rains with isolated moderate showers cannot be ruled out.
According to Skymet Weather, the troughs are likely to become less marked but recent weather activities will leave lots of moisture in the atmosphere, leading to local development of convective clouds that could give light to moderate showers over the state capital.
So far, the city has managed to record 123.5 mm of rains only, whereas its monthly average rainfall is 300.6 mm. However, with 10 days in hand, we are hopeful that city may reach close to the normal figure.
