As reiterated by Skymet, good Pre-Monsoon showers have once again lashed Kolkata. So much so that the ongoing IPL match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rising Pune SuperGiants, which is being held in Kolakata has also been interrupted. As per Mahesh Palawat, Chief Meteorologist of Skymet Weather, these rains are likely to continue or another hour and a half or more.
The city of joy had also received good showers yesterday. In fact, Dumdum observatory had recorded 23 mm of rain and 11 mm rain was recorded at the Alipore Observatory.
Currently, the trough extending from Assam to Odisha across Gangetic West Bengal. Also, moisture laden winds from the Bay of Bengal have been feeding moisture. Along with this, local heating duirng the day time have made the conditions favourable for the build up of convective clouds.
These convective clouds which had developed over Kolkata travelled from the western parts of West Bengal and are now hovering over Kolkata. These conditions are likely to remain the same for another 24 hours. Thus, the possibility of more rainfall over Kolkata cannot be ruled out.
