The City of Joy has been receiving on and off light rain only. For the past one week, most of Kolkata has been recording rainfall in single digits. So much so that temperatures have also been settling close to the normal levels.
However, these rains have been light in intensity and patchy in nature. Good widespread rains were still missing from Kolkata. But, rain gods finally decided to bestow some happiness on the joyous city and good rains were recorded yesterday.
During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Dum Dum observatory recorded 33 mm of rainfall, on the other hand, Alipore observatory received 29 mm of rain during the same time. The city had been receiving intermittent showers all throughout yesterday.
In fact, the city which usually remains humid throughout the day witnessed a drop in maximums during the afternoon hours only. So much so that the maximum dropped to 32 degrees at around 4 pm only.
These rains can be attributed to the fresh cyclonic circulation which has come up in the Odisha and its adjoining areas. Now, during the next 24 hours, good rains are likely to continue over the City of Joy and temperatures will remain in the comfortable range.
So far, Kolkata has recorded about 133 mm of rain against its monthly average of 399.9 mm. With about three weeks left in July, Kolkata may be able to reach its monthly rains on time.
