Kolkata has been witnessing dry and humid weather conditions for the last couple of days. The last rains that the city witnessed were on May 22-23. However, these were also isolated in nature, which is why it did not impact the maximum temperatures which continues to settle near normal.
The monthly average rains that the city accounts for in the month of May stands at 133.1 mm. The average monthly maximum and the minimum temperature of Kolkata also stands at 35.3 and 26.4 degrees, respectively.
Though both the temperatures over the city are settling near the normal levels, Kolkata has not yet reached halfway mark in terms of monthly average rainfall.

However, there is a good news in store for Kolkata. As per Skymet Weather, the normal date for the onset of Southwest Monsoon is around June 10 but this year, we expect Monsoon to arrive little early over the city.

As of now, southerly humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are expected to blow over the region. In the wake of this, pre-Monsoon rains are expected to commence once again over Kolkata in the first week of June, by June 1 or 2. Although they will be patchy in nature and of short duration.
Furthermore, these showers may be accompanied by thunderstorm, thundershowers, and strong winds. Though a significant drop in the temperature profile is not expected, it would surely give some relief from the ongoing humid conditions.
