Kolkata has witnessed good Monsoon rains during the last few days. In fact, the City of Joy did record a few heavy spells of rains also during this period.
These weather conditions can be attributed to the presence of a weather system which did intensify into a depression and resulted in heavy to very heavy rains over many parts of West Bengal as well as Jharkhand along with Kolkata.

However, rainfall activity has reduced in the past 48 hours and heavy rains have been converted into moderate showers. In fact, in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, 19 mm of rainfall was recorded in Kolkata.
Now, the depression which was over Southeast Uttar Pradesh has weakened into a well-marked low pressure area and is now over Northeast Madhya Pradesh. As this weather system has moved away from Gangetic West Bengal, we expect rain intensity to reduce significantly over entire Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata.
