The cultural capital of India, Kolkata has been receiving good rains since last many days. These rains were occurring mostly during afternoon and evening hours and the weather remained warm and humid.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough that is passing through Gangetic West Bengal. In wake of this weather feature, on and off rains were observed over Kolkata.
However, in the last 24 hours, the city failed to record any rain activity. Whereas other areas of Gangetic West Bengal did receive light rains like Midnapore 10 mm, Bankura 7 mm, Asansol 4 mm, Digha 3 mm and Burdwan 2 mm.
Weathermen at Skymet Weather expect the eastern end of axis of Monsoon trough to shift further south, leading to marginal decrease in rains over Kolkata. On the other hand, humid winds from Bay of Bengal will continue to feed moisture over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata.

Consequently scattered showers will continue over the area. Heavy to very heavy rains are ruled out and the weather is not expected to go completely dry.
Till date, Kolkata has recorded rainfall to the tune of 208.1 mm as against its average monthly rainfall for Kolkata that stands at 344.5 mm.
