In the past day, Gangetic West Bengal received light to moderate rains but South Bangladesh and Odisha Coast witnessed moderate to heavy showers.
In the last 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Wednesday, Midnapore witnessed rain to the tune of 13 mm, Kolkata 3 mm, Bankura 15 mm, Canning and Diamond Harbour 1 mm of rain. Now, the well-marked Low Pressure has intensified further and has formed into a Depression.
The weather system is likely to move in a north-northwest direction and will cross Odisha coast between Puri and Chandbali by tonight.

Due to the close proximity of the weather system, Kolkata is likely to witness light moderate with one or two heavy spells on the eve of Diwali. It is anticipated by weather experts that these hefty showers will continue over Kolkata during the next 48 hours.
The rain intensity may reduce on October 21 over the state. Many districts of Gangetic West Bengal such as Midnapore, Bankura and Diamond Harbour will receive good rains.

By October 20, remaining parts of West Bengal will be covered by moderate to heavy showers. It is expected that the weather system will recurve towards the northeastern states and hence by October 21 the rain intensity will reduce over West Bengal including Kolkata.
The weather will remain pleasant and the temperatures are likely to reduce by 3°C to 5°C. The sky conditions will also remain cloudy to overcast.
