Kolkata rains to continue as low pressure may form soon

August 5, 2018 1:37 PM |

Kolkata rains to pick pace around May 29, isolated showers until then

Kolkata rains have become a constant affair for the last few days and the capital city of West Bengal has been witnessing rains for the past few days. While these rains have remained on the lower side for some days, a few moderate showers have also been recorded over the City of Joy. Heavy rainfall was also observed during the end of the third week in July over the city of Kolkata.

Talking about the last 24 hours, rains have been moderate in nature over Kolkata. In fact, in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Alipore observatory in Kolkata recorded a good 12 mm of rains. The maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature settled at 26.8 degrees Celsius.

The reason for rainfall activity over Kolkata can be attributed to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal. This system will induce a low pressure over West Bengal and adjoining areas during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Thus, rainfall over Kolkata is expected to continue. Intensity of these rains will remain between light and moderate. In fact, isolated heavy showers cannot be ruled out over the city of Kolkata.
