In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Alipore Observatory has recorded 24 mm of rain, while Dumdum Observatory has seen 28 mm of rain. In fact, light rains were drenching the city since 7:30 am today. This had also interrupted the first day of the cricket test match between India and Sri Lanka, which was scheduled to start at 8 am on Thursday at Eden Garden, Kolkata.

Though rains have now taken a break but sky remains overcast and we can expect some more good spells of rains throughout the day. Maximum temperature in the city has also taken steep drop to 23°C, leading to pleasant weather conditions.
According to Skymet Weather, the depression has sustained its strength during the last 24 hours and has also moved further along the East Coast in north-northeast direction. At present, the depression is marked over westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off the coast of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha.
It is centered at Latitude 17.5°N and Longitude 84.3°E, about 118 km east of Visakhapatnam and 180 km south-southwest of Gopalpur. We expect depression to continue to move in northeast direction for the next 24 hours. However, due to the proximity to the coast, the system is most likely to weaken gradually.

However, the system will be capable enough to give moderate rains and thundershowers with few heavy spells over Kolkata and nearby areas of Gangetic West Bengal on November 16 and November 17.
By November 18, system will move away from the coast and also weaken, thus rains will reduce significantly but light rains will continue.
