Southwest Monsoon has been pacing up in parts of Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal from last many days. Light to moderate rains have seldom taken a break from showing up in West Bengal particularly in Kolkata and the capital of West Bengal has been recording on and off showers.
Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Kolkata failed to record many good showers and had to settle with some light traces only. However, heavy rains to the tune of 109 mm that were recorded by Bankura in the last 48 hours, reduced to 5 mm in the last 24 hours. On the contrary, few other regions of the state such as Burdwan and Shanti Niketan that were recording light traces of rains from last many days have witnessed heavy rains in the last 24 hours.

The reason for these rains over the parts of West Bengal can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough that was passing through Bankura and Digha thus resulting in rains over Kolkata.

A present, the eastern arm of the axis of Monsoon trough is running from Gangetic West Bengal and thus Kolkata also including parts of Gangetic West Bengal will continue to witness on and off light to moderate showers throughout the month.
Though possibilities of heavy to very heavy rains are ruled out the weather will not go completely dry. However, these rains will not be fairly widespread and will be patchy and highly localized covering a shorter area.
The average monthly rainfall stats for Kolkata stands at 344.5 mm and the city has till date recorded 184.5 mm of rains.
