Kolkata Rains: City of Joy records heavy rains, more in offing for next 48 hrs

August 4, 2017 4:00 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Since the last two days, various areas of Gangetic West Bengal have been receiving moderate to heavy spells. The city of Joy has also been experiencing incessant rains and due to this, the mercury level has fallen down by 2-3 notches. This has eventually led to comfortable and pleasant weather conditions for the residents of the state along with its capital city.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Kolkata recorded 50 mm of rainfall.

The reason for these weather activities can be attributed to a fresh cyclonic circulation which has developed over North Bay of Bengal off West Bengal Coast. In fact, weather conditions remain conducive for more rain and thundershowers. Weathermen predict, moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers are expected to continue over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata for another 48 hours.

Thereafter, this weather system is expected to move inland towards west. With this, Monsoon rainfall and thundershower activities may reduce significantly over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata. However, the weather of Kolkata will remain pleasant and comfortable for the next few days but henceforth sultry weather conditions are in the offing over the state.
