Kolkata observes light rain, more showers today

The weather of Kolkata was dry for quite some time. While the city had witnessed good rains right before Holi. In fact, that spell of rain had continued for at least four days with two days of heavy rainfall. During that time, the city recorded around 130 mm rain which happens to be unusual for Kolkata in March.

The last week remained dry for the City of Joy. However, rain gods made an appearance once again yesterday. The city was observing cloudy sky conditions during the latter part of the day. Light rainfall was recorded over many parts of Kolkata.

So much so that during the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Dum Dum Airport in Kolkata recorded 2 mm of rain. On the other hand, Alipore observatory witnessed 1 mm of rainfall. Other parts including the suburbs also recorded some rainfall activity.

These rainy conditions can be attributed to the upper air cyclonic circulation which is currently over the northern areas of West Bengal and adjoining areas. Moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal has been resulting in cloud formation over Kolkata.
