Kolkata is likely to witness another spell of rain and thundershowers today. According to Skymet Weather, weather conditions are conducive for some pre-Monsoon activities over Kolkata during the late Thursday afternoon.
The trough running from Punjab to West Bengal across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar continues to persist over the region. Due to this, humid winds from Bay of Bengal have been blowing over Kolkata for the past few days.
“With lots of moisture hanging in the atmosphere, we can expect formation of convective clouds as the mercury rises. As a result, pre-Monsoon activities such as thunder storm, thundershowers or rains may occur over Kolkata by evening,” said Mahesh Palawat, Chief Meteorologist, Skymet Weather.
Yesterday also, thunderclouds had developed over the state capital around afternoon hours and between 4 pm and 6 pm, several parts of the city recorded thundershowers, along with gusty winds.
Similar weather could also be seen today as well. With this, pleasant weather conditions are likely to prevail during the evening over the city of joy.
However, these pre-Monsoon activities will not have any impact over temperature profile. The day maximums are still settling above normal and will continue to be so. On Wednesday, maximum temperature in Kolkata settled at 37.1C, two degrees above normal.
Similarly, minimum temperatures are also settling above normal on account of high humidity levels.
