April 18, 2017 5:15 PM |

Rain in KolkataKolkata has been reeling under and hot and humid weather conditions for the last few days. The city is now gearing up for some pre-Monsoon activities, but we do not expect much change in the existing weather conditions.

On Monday, the city of joy recorded day maximum at 35.7°C, which was above normal by a degree. Similarly, minimum temperatures were also two degrees above average at 26.6°C.

According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is marked over East Bihar and adjoining areas. A trough is also extending from this system up to Coastal Odisha across Gangetic West Bengal.

Both the systems coupled together could trigger some light rain and thundershowers over several parts of West Bengal including Kolkata during the 24-48 hours. Thunderstorm may occur at some parts of the capital city. The approaching rains will be short and sharp and nature and any prolonged spell is ruled out.

True their nature, these pre-Monsoon activities will occur during the late afternoon or evening hours and thus will not affect the day maximums. As per weathermen, the relief will be short lived and mercury will start rising once again from the next day. Instead, these systems will increase the moisture over that may further increase the discomfort.

However, parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal are likely to witness good pre-Monsoon showers.
