Rain in Kolkata

This year, the pre-Monsoon season was good in terms of rainfall for the state of West Bengal and now the Monsoon season has commenced with pre-Monsoon showers still being witnessed over the same.

In the past 24 hours, scattered light to moderate rains continued over many parts of West Bengal wherein places like Malda, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Digha and Diamond Harbour have recorded decent rains.

Jalpaigurirecorded 10.2 mm of rains and maximums dropped to 27.9°C with Digha witnessing 37.4 mm of rainfall. InKolkata as well the day temperature dropped by a degree and was recorded at 34.8°C.

These activities were in the wake of a Cyclonic Circulation that was persisting over the eastern parts of Bihar and a trough was extending up to Mizoram across West Bengal. Moreover, the humid winds from the Bay of Bengal also increased moisture over the region and hence resulting in rains.

Now, aCyclonic Circulation is over Jharkhand and adjoining areas of West Bengal, therefore we expect the light to moderate rains with few heavy spells to occur over many parts of West Bengal for next three to four days.

The experts at Skymet have to say thatKolkatamight also receive good rains in the coming days. With this, it is expected that temperature might remain in the lower 30s over most parts of West Bengal during the next week. Monsoon generally hits West Bengal between June 5 and June 10 and with the delay in the onset of Monsoon, a marginal delay in West Bengal is also anticipated.

We can say that the first week of June will turn out to be very good in terms of rain for West Bengal.
