Monsoon 2016 has been good over the city of joy. Kolkata has so far received 907 mm of rain against the normal of 898 mm of rain. Therefore, the city is enjoying rainfall 1% above than the normal.
At present, there is a cyclonic circulation present over North of Bay of Bengal. And a surface level trough is extending along the East Coast. And the axis of Monsoon trough is close to South Bengal.
Due to these systems in the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain was observed over Kolkata and adjoining areas. The Dum Dum observatory in the city recorded 14.4 mm of rains. But on August 22, 64 mm rain was recorded.
West Bengal observed incessant rains during last 24 hours; but the rain was scanty over the state which showed some relief from the heavy downpour. Only a few areas recorded moderate rain otherwise very light rain at some places were recorded only.
Until a new weather system arrives over South of West Bengal, occasional light rain and uneasy humid weather will continue over the Kolkata.
