Kolkata braces for good rains in the next 24 hours

October 17, 2017 11:18 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Almost the entire eastern state of West Bengal is dry from the past 4-5 days. The last rains that most parts of the state had recorded were during the second week of the month.  Since then, almost the entire state is dry. In the same pattern, the last 24 hours were also no different for the state and its capital city, Kolkata.

As per Skymet Weather, the low-pressure area over west central Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Coast will move in a north-northwesterly direction towards Odisha and may intensify further. Due to this, Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata can get to see rains around October 18.

Initially, the intensity of these showers will be light and scattered in nature. However, gradually, the intensity of rains will increase and will cover many parts of the state. Further, by October 19 and 20, almost the entire state will witness cloudy weather along with good rains.

Skymet Weather further reiterates that on and off showers will continue to occur over West Bengal until October 21. Thereafter, the weather system and the rain belt will move towards the northeastern states and the weather will once again become dry over Kolkata and entire West Bengal.

In a nutshell, this may be the last good rainy spell for the city.
