Kolkata, Bankura, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri to see moderate rains

Southwest Monsoon has been seen picking up pace over several distrcits of Gangetic West Bengal, as well as Sub-Himalayan West Bengal since last many days. Hence, light to moderate rain and thundershowers have been witnessed over the entire state. The weather conditions have also remained favorable for the residents of West Bengal in the last couple of days.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Bankura recorded 54.4 mm of rainfall, Kolkata 17.8 mm, Krishnagar 17 mm, Sriniketan 16.2 mm, Jalpaiguri 13.2 mm, Midnapore 12.8 mm, Baharampur 10 mm, Diamond Harbour 8.3 mm, Digha 4 mm, Coochbehar 3.2 mm and Burdwan 2.2 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation is seen lying over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining areas of Sikkim. A trough is also seen extending from this system up to Bay of Bengal across Gangetic West Bengal.

Due to these weather systems, moderate rains along with a few heavy showers are expected to continue over most parts of West Bengal including Kolkata during the next two to three days.

Thereafter, the intensity of these rainfall activities are expected to reduce significantly and thereby, the warm and humid weather is expected to rise once again over the entire state.

As on August 13, the sub divisional rainfall distribution statistics shows that Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Gangetic West Bengal are rain surplus regions by 4% and 12%, respectively.
