Durga Puja rains

The meteorologists at Skymet have predicted heavy rain and thundershower activities along with moderate lightning strikes in Sub Himalayan West Bengal and North West Bengal amidst Durga Puja today. In fact, one might or two places might experience very heavy to extremely heavy rains as well.

Meanwhile, Gangetic West Bengal including the capital city of Kolkata may experience moderate rain and thundershowers.

All these weather conditions can be attributed to the Cyclonic Circulation over South Uttar Pradesh. This system would be moving eastwards after some time. Moreover, an upper air Trough is extending from this system up to Northeast Bay of Bengal across Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal.

Under its influence, North West Bengal may experience heavy rain and thundershowers for the next 24 hours. Places like Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Malda, North Dinajpur, Purulia, Bankura and Shanti Niketan may see heavy rains. While places like Kolkata, Digha, Medinipur, North, and South 24 Parganas and Nadia may observe moderate rain and thundershowers.

Moreover, these rainfall activities are useful for crops like Paddy in the state.

The state of West Bengal including Kolkata has seen deficit rainfall this Monsoon season so far. However, in the last couple of days, rains have revived over the state and upcoming good rains may improve the rainfall statistics of the state.
