The entire state of Kerala has been witnessing light to moderate rains during the post Monsoon season. In particular, since last few days, the coastal and northern districts of the state have been observing good rains.

Similarly, the past 24 hours were no different and many parts of the state continued to witness light to moderate rains with a few spells of heavy showers. Whereas remaining areas in Kerala recorded scattered showers only.

Within a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Punalur recorded heavy rainfall of 66 mm, followed by Alappuzha 14.2 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 7.5 mm, Kottayam 5.4 mm and Kozhikode 2.2 mm. While the coastal city of Kerala, Kochi merely recorded traces of rainfall.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is seen over the southeast Arabian Sea. Also, humid winds are blowing from the Arabian Sea and are thus, resulting in increased humidity levels and rains over the entire state.

Due to the effect of this weather system, light to moderate rain with one or two heavy spells are likely over northern and coastal parts of Kerala during the next two to three days.

Thereafter, the intensity of these rains is expected to reduce gradually from many parts of Kerala particularly from the coastal districts of the state.

Besides this, the intensity of rains is anticipated to further increase over northern and central districts of Kerala such as Kochi, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Ramapuram, Malappuram and Kannur during the next few days.

Maximums are expected to range between 30 and 33 degrees Celsius. Whereas, the minimum temperatures will settle around 24-25 degrees Celsius.
