Know more about the cleanest city of India, Tezpur

We all are aware of the beauty of our own Northeast India, still unexploited and to some extent unexplored. Now, the report by World Health Organization (WHO) also confirmed that Tezpur city in Assam is the least polluted city in India.

After Tejpur the cleanest city of India is Pathanamthitta in Kerala, followed by Hassan in Karnataka. The report by WHO took into consideration 122 cities across India.

Going by the WHO guidelines, we can say that the permissible limit of PM 10 is 20 g/m3 (micrograms per cubic meter of air) and PM 2.5 is 10 g/m3. While, in Tezpur the annual mean PM 10 was found to be 11 g/m3 and annual mean PM 2.5 was 6 g/m3.

This study was conducted by WHO in about 2,973 cities in 103 countries across the globe. Onitsa in Nigeria and Zabol in Iran are among the most polluted cities in the world. From India, thirty-four cities made it to the list of 100 most polluted cities of the world while 22 cities were featured in the 50 most polluted cities list.

Tezpur is situated in the Sonitpur district of Assam. This place is nothing less than a paradise for nature lovers and historical enthusiasts. It is an amalgamation of various tribes which makes it a culturally rich land. This cultural capital of Assam is quite a tourist friendly place. Sheltering a host of exquisite flora and fauna, Sonitpur could be termed as a biodiversity hotspot. The Nameri National Park, about 35 kms away from Tezpur, is a must visit tourist destination.
