Know how Monsoon rains peak in July and AugustSouthwest Monsoon is a four-month long process which begins on June 1 and comes to an end on September 30. While the northern parts see Monsoon rains only for about two months, the southern as well as eastern and southeastern areas observe Monsoon activities throughout the Monsoon season.

The core Monsoon months happen to be July and August wherein 63 percent of Monsoon rains are observed with July seeing 33 percent rainfall and 30 percent in August. June only sees 18 percent rainfall and September is also similar at 19 percent.

During the onset as well as the withdrawal phase rains are far less as compared to July and August. Meanwhile, the core Monsoon months see rains increasing at an exponential rate with varying amounts each day.

When it comes to daily rainfall data, it is calculated on the basis of area. The most amount of contribution comes from the West Coast, particularly Coastal Karnataka as well as Northeast India including Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

The first day of Monsoon records rains at around 2.7 mm while the last sees 3.9 mm of rains. During the month of June, the first week observes rains to the tune of 3-4 mm. By the end of the months, the daily rains increase to 7.5 mm.

July begins at 8 mm initially and ends at a daily rainfall of 9.5 mm. The peak Monsoon period is between Mid July and Mid August. Thereafter, it lowers down in the end going down to 7 mm. September begins with 7 mm of rains and ends at 4 mm. In fact, as Monsoon comes to an end, rains during the last few days of September remain around 4 mm only.
