Know how cold are Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot during December

The state of Gujarat does not observe any significant weather during the winter season. Right from intense cold weather to heavy rains, these conditions remain absent from the region.

The only time Gujarat witnesses rainfall activity is when freak occurrences occur in the form of a disturbance in the Arabian Sea. This December, it was cyclone Ockhi which had recurved in the Arabian Sea and caused some rains in Gujarat.

Coming to cold weather conditions, this only occurs when Northern disturbances in the form of a Western Disturbance affects the northern plains and causes some weather over Gujarat thus winter chill in North India has some effect over the state of Gujarat as well.

The anticyclone which is a frequent occurrence during the season over Rajasthan is the main source that brings the cold air over these parts.

During the month of December, three cities including Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Rajkot which lie in the interior Gujarat region observe single digit minimum temperatures in December at times.

This year, until now single digit minimums over these cities have not been recorded even once. During the last 10 years, Ahmedabad has seen single digit minimum 6 out of 10 times, the lowest being on December 15, 2004 at 7.4 degrees.

Similarly, Vadodara has observed single digit minimum only once in 10 years on December 15, 2004 at 9.4 degrees. Meanwhile, the city of Rajkot has been slightly colder than the two and has had 7 single digit minimum occurrences out of 10, the lowest being on December 31, 2013.

This year, Vadodara recorded 13.2 degree as its lowest, while Ahmedabad saw the minimum being the lowest at 11.1 degrees and Rajkot at 11 degrees, all of these occurred on December 14, 2017.
