Kerala witnesses moderate to heavy rain

Rain in KeralaMost parts of Kerala have been witnessing moderate to heavy rain during the past 24 hours on account of pre-monsoon activity. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, combination of two weather systems have caused rain over the coastal state.

The two systems include a cyclonic circulation prevailing over Comorin area adjoining extreme parts of southern peninsular and Sri Lanka and wind discontinuity along Kerala and Karnataka coast.

Let us have a look at the rainfall figures in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday:

As per the latest forecast, rain will continue to lash the state for next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall could be observed at isolated places. Thereafter, the intensity is expected to reduce as the cyclonic circulation will move westwards over Lakshadweep region and south Arabian Sea.

In wake of the system, maximum temperatures have registered a significant drop and are now settling in mid-30s. Similarly, minimum temperatures have also dropped and are recording in the mid-20s.

As Kerala entered the pre-monsoon season, good amounts of rain have been witnessed in the state. Last week, it recorded 67 mm of rain against the normal of 25 mm. We expect, similar trend this week as well.
