During the past 24 hours, moderate rains with isolated heavy falls were witnessed in many parts of Kerala. These showers were mainly witnessed over southern districts of the state in comparison to northern portion.

Cyclone Ockhi has already claimed seven lives across Kerala. These rains have thrown the normal life out of gear and caused huge traffic jams across most parts. Schools near the coast have been closed.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday to 05:30 am on Saturday, Thiruvananthapuram recorded 67 mm of rains, Kozhikode 22 mm and Kochi 0.6 mm of rains.

According to Skymet Weather, the rains have already reduced over Kerala as the system has moved away from the region and no other major weather system is pesently seen over the region.

Thus, light rains with isolated moderate showers will continue over places such as Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kollam, Kochi, and Kottayam during the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the northern districts will settle with light rains. Sea conditions will remain rough over South Coastal Kerala for at least the next 24 hours.

However, weathermen expect rains are likely to once again pick up pace by December 6 in wake of the well-marked low pressure area over South Andaman Sea and adjoining Strait of Malacca that is likely to intensify into a depression and move towards Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Heavy rains will be seen over the region by December 7.
