State of Kerala witnessed rain surplus during the recently ended Southwest Monsoon 2018. Kerala experienced good rains in the initial period of October and it became rain surplus by 25% during that time. However, there is a drop in rainfall and currently Kerala is rain surplus only by 10%.
On the contrary, Karnataka did not perform well. It was rain deficient by 40%. Weather of these two states is dry since past one week or so. Good news is that the Northeast Monsoon 2018 is all set to kick off after a much delay. Rains would once again hit the region of Kerala and southern districts of Karnataka.
As per Skymet Weather, we can expect light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells over South interior Karnataka and Kerala between November 1-3. However, weather of North interior Karnataka would almost remain dry.
Post November 3, rain intensity would once again decrease significantly over these two states. Around November 5, a low-pressure area is expected to develop over Southwest Bay of Bengal which would travel across South Tamil Nadu and South Kerala. Due to this system, we can expect heavy rains over parts of Kerala around October 7 or 8.
On a brief note, we can say that Kerala would continue to maintain its rain surplus but there won’t be much change in the deficient levels of Karnataka. This tells that the upcoming rain episode would be short lived.
