Rains in Kerala have reduced in the past 24 hours, as had been previously stated by Skymet Weather. The state saw light rains with few moderate spells only. However, the coastal station of Kochi recorded good rain to the tune of 66 mm.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Kottayam recorded 13.4 mm of rain, followed by Punalur 10 mm, Alappuzha 4.4 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 2.5 mm and Kozhikode 0.5 mm.
Even though the state of Kerala is receiving good rains since the last many days, the rain pattern seen at present is different from the typical Northeast Monsoon season rain pattern.
Generally during the Northeast Monsoon season, rains in Kerala travel from Tamil Nadu. However, looking at the present conditions, we can say that the scenario is quite different as rains are being observed in isolation and the typical Northeast Monsoon pattern is not being followed. During the Northeast Monsoon season, the spread of rain is good, and intensity is even.
Now during the next 24 hours, we expect rains to reduce even more over the entire state of Kerala. Mostly light rainfall activity with isolated moderate spells is likely to occur over the state till Northeast Monsoon marks its onset.
Meanwhile, we expect Northeast Monsoon to strike the Southern Peninsula around October 26, rains in Kerala are expected to pick up pace only from October 27.
