Since last few days, the West Coast of India has been receiving on and off Monsoon showers of varied intensity. Hence, Coastal parts of Kerala has witnessed moderate rains with isolated heavy at a few places. Whereas, interior parts of Kerala also witnessed light to moderate Monsoon showers. Also, due to these Monsoon rains, the weather over the state of Kerala has remained comfortable and easy for the residents in the last couple of days.
In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Kannur recorded 59 mm of rainfall, Kozhikode 32.6 mm, Panalur 23.4 mm, Kochi 17 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 7.5 mm and Kottayam 4.8 mm.
These weather conditions can be attributed to an offshore trough which is likely to remain active along the West Coast. Due to this persisting trough, the coastal parts of Kerala will continue to observe moderate rains with isolated heavy spells at one or two places. Interior parts of Kerala will also continue to settle with light to moderate Monsoon showers.

Moreover, these good Monsoon showers are anticipated to continue over Kerala and other cities such as Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kochi during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Thereafter, the intensity of these rainfall activities is likely to reduce marginally over the entire state of Kerala. However, this reduction in the rainfall activities will not affect the prevailing comfortable and easy weather conditions over the state for the coming few days.
As on August 18, the sub-divisional of rainfall distribution statistics shows that Kerala is rain deficient by 29%. Also, to meet the rain surplus, criteria the state has to continuously witness good spells of Monsoon rains.
