Northeast Monsoon has given light to moderate rain with a few heavy spells in Kerala during the last 24 hours.
According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Kochi has received 68.2 mm of rainfall, followed by Alappuzha 58.9 mm, Kozhikode 42.4 mm and Trivandrum 19 mm in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday.
However, these rainfall activities were comparatively less over Kerala as compared to other parts of South India such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
This is because of the position of both the Well Marked Low-Pressure Areas. One is at present located near Karnataka Coast, while the other is lying near Andhra Pradesh Coast.
According to our meteorologists, light to moderate rain with one or two heavy spells would continue over Kerala for another 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the rainfall activities would taper, however, the weather would not go completely dry and on and off rains would continue.
The Northeast Monsoon is most likely to become active over Kerala after three to four days, leading to an increase in the weather activities over the state. During that time, moderate to heavy rains would lash the state which may lead to flash floods and waterlogging in some parts.
The month of October is considered good for Kerala in terms of weather activities. Rains appear quite frequently and temperatures also remain on the lower side leading to pleasant weather conditions.
