Kerala Rains: Expect Heavy rains with strong winds in Cochin, Kannur and Kozhikode in next 24 hours

Until now, Kerala has received at par rains, that is it is keeping the pace normal and stands at –1%. Between August 4 to August 14, heavy rains battered Kerala leading to widespread flooding.

In fact, these torrential rains are now becoming a regular feature over here in Kerala. Apart, from extreme weather conditions, human activities are also to blame for these heavy floods.

Presently, the off-shore Trough is extending from Coastal Karnataka to Kerala and the Monsoon surge is likely to remain strong for the next two days.

Moderate rains with one or two heavy spells are expected today and tomorrow. However, these rains will not trigger floods. The rain episodes will be short-lived and weather activities are likely to subside around August 24. The experts have to say that the rain intensity might pick up the pace tomorrow and chances of heavy rains are likely over Kozhikode, Cochin, and Kannur in association with strong winds, mainly over the central and northern districts of Kerala.

In the past 24 hours, light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells have occurred over Kerala as Kannur recorded 39 mm, Punalur 36 mm, Kozhikode 16 mm, Cochin 13 mm, Alappuzha 10 mm, Kottayam 7 mm and Karipur Airport 6 mm.
