Kerala Floods worsen, death toll increases to 67

Kerala FloodsKerala floods have been affecting God’s own country for around 10 days, and residents have suffered enough for a long time now. The state has battled with the worst floods in the history which has caused 67 deaths so far. In fact, yesterday alone, 24 people lost their lives in related incidents itself. Not only this, around 18 people are feared dead in different parts of Kerala today.

Moreover, for the first time ever, the state has opened 35 dams out of 39 in the state. Kochi Airport has suspended all its operations until August 18, as water has entered the runway.

PM Modi has not only asked the Ministry of Defence to step up Kerala relief and rescue operations but also spoken to the CM again assuring all help possible from the Centre.

In fact, due to flooding and landslips, several trains at the Thiruvananthapuram-Nagarcoil route have been cancelled. Moreover, due to water inundation, metro services in Kochi have been suspended until water recedes from the region.

All the rivers in the state have breached their banks, right from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram. Flood waters have entered several houses and commercial establishments in the Aluva, Paravur and Perumbavoor region.

During the next 24 hours, rains will remain heavy over the state of Kerala which will further aggravate the situation.
