The off-shore trough is a semi-permanent feature during the Monsoon season. As and when the trough gets activated, Kerala receives good showers. The state also receives rain from any system formed in the Bay of Bengal, as such systems enhance the Monsoon surge. More showers are expected over Kerala in the coming days as the off-shore trough is active and the low pressure area also persists in the Bay of Bengal.
