Kerala and Tamil Nadu lashed by heavy rains, more to come

Since the last 10 to 12 days, Kerala has been receiving light to moderate rain with occasional heavy showers. During the last two days, rain activities have intensified over many parts of Kerala and moderate to heavy rain lashed parts of the state.

A Cyclonic circulation is over southwest Bay of Bengal, and a North South trough is extending from south East Madhya Pradesh to Kerala. The impact of these weather parameters is seen in terms of moderate to heavy rain over Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Parts of coastal Karnataka have also recorded light to moderate rain. The cyclonic circulation will persist over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining parts of Sri Lanka leading to more showers over Tamil Nadu and Kerala for at least next 48 hours. Sri Lanka is also in the line of fire and have been receiving heavy showers since last 2 days.

Between March 1 and April 8, country is rain deficient by 48%. Northwest India is deficient by 91%, Central India by 83% and South Peninsula is deficient just 19%. Kerala has received 44% surplus rainfall and Karnataka is surplus by 28%. Tamil Nadu is deficient by 50%. Upcoming rain may improve the rain statistics of Tamil Nadu.
