Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand witness prolonged rainy spell

Active Western Disturbances generally affect the Western Himalayas between the months of October and March. However, this year we have had Western Disturbances throughout the month of April and May. This is unusual as most of the weather systems track towards the higher latitudes during this time of the year.

On May 12, Skymet Weather had written Plains of North India turn dry despite rainy days in hills.

As of now temperatures are on the rise in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. These states will not receive any significant pre-Monsoon activities for next couple of days. However, we expect back-to-back feeble Western Disturbances to continue to affect the hilly regions. Therefore, scattered light rains will continue over the hills of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Nevertheless, we cannot rule out light rain and thundershowers in the plains on Friday night.

During late afternoon hours of Thursday, torrential rains and thundershowers triggered flash floods over the Batote region of Jammu and Kashmir.
