With New Year round the corner, people across the country are pepped up for the celebrations. While few have zeroed out on the party places, some have packed their bags to ring in the new year in the scenic snow clad mountains of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

But we are afraid that snowfall is likely to give a miss to famous hill stations of Srinagar, Gulmarg, Manali and Shimla, this new year’s eve. Like Christmas, the weather is most likely to remain dry and cold, with chances of snowfall quite bleak.
According to Skymet Weather, although a Western Disturbance is affecting Jammu and Kashmir but it is not capable enough of impacting the weather over the region. Weather may become cloudy but snowfall is ruled out, predict weathermen.

Both the maximum and minimum temperatures would be settling near normal. In fact, at a few places, mercury may even settle above normal average.
The weather models are not forecasting any active Western Disturbance in the near future or in the initial week of January 2018 as well. We may get some rain and snow around January 7-8 but we have to wait and watch for that.
Jammu and Kashmir is presently witnessing Chillai-Kalan season that begins on December 21 and ends on January 31 every year. This is a 40-day period, followed by a 20-day long 'Chillai-Khurd' season and thereafter, a 10-day long 'Chillai-Bachha'.
