In the last 24 hours, several parts of coastal Karnataka and parts of South interior Karnataka have been witnessing good rains. In fact, the capital city, Bengaluru had also recorded moderate showers. These rains were a sigh of relief for the residents of Karnataka from the ongoing dry and warm weather conditions.
In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, the capital city of Karnataka, Bengaluru recorded moderate rainfall of 54 mm, followed by Mandya 21 mm, Gadag 20.4 mm, Hassan 14.2 mm, Mysuru 10 mm, Chitradurga 7 mm, Belagavi 5.5 mm, Madikeri 4 mm, Ballari 2.4 mm, Agumbe 1.4 mm and Vijayapura 1 mm.
These weather conditions can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is seen over the Andaman Sea and adjoining areas. Also, the east-west trough is seen extending from this cyclonic circulation up to Lakshadweep across the South Bay of Bengal, North Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.

Due to these weather systems, the rain intensity over Karnataka is likely to increase within the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the coastal and interior parts of Karnataka will continue to witness moderate to heavy rains and thundershower for the next two to three days. Whereas, light rains are likely over the southern parts of Karnataka during the similar time period.

Thus, the districts such as Bengaluru, Honnavar, Karwar, Gadag, Hassan, and Mangaluru will continue to witness good rains. However, the southern stations of the state such as Mysuru and Mandya are likely to get light showers only.With this, comfortable weather conditions are likely to prevail over the entire state of Karnataka.
As on September 24, the sub-divisional rainfall distribution statistics show that Karnataka is rain deficient by 10% which happens to be normal for the state. However, Bengaluru remains rain surplus by 29%. Moreover, with the predictions of some good showers paving the way, the rain statistics is likely to enhance further.
