The Well Marked Low-Pressure Area present over the Central Arabian Sea since the last few days can soon become more marked. In the next 24 hours, the system might soon turn into a ‘Depression’ while lying over the East-central Arabian Sea.
At present, the system is showing lateral movement close to the coast which is causing concern for the three coastal pockets of Goa, Konkan, and Karnataka which have been put on alert. This will induce increased rainfall over these coastal stations. Cities like Ratnagiri, Goa, Karwar, and Mangalore are at the highest risk. Mumbai may also receive increased rains.
After inducing rains, the system will start shifting away from the coast and become more organized possibly converting into a ‘Cyclone’ in the next 48 hours. If it forms, the Cyclone will be called ‘Kyarr’.
Thereafter, the day after tomorrow the rainfall activity will ease out over the Indian coast.
October 25 onward i.e. by the day after tomorrow itself, a lean period in terms of rain will ensue over the West coast as the system moves further away from the coast. A breather will sue in over the West Coast with only light to moderate rains likely.
