Active Northeast Monsoon has given heavy to heavy rain in North Interior Karnataka during the last 24 hours. According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Belgaum has recorded 92 mm of rainfall, followed by Chitradurga 82 mm, Chikmagalur 49 mm, Honavar 21 mm and Agumbe 20 mm in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday.
On the other hand, rains were comparatively less over Bengaluru and the capital city has observed 8 mm of rainfall within the same time frame.
As per our experts, the Low-Pressure Area over the East Central Arabian Sea would soon intensify and become Well Marked. In addition to this, the Cyclonic Circulation over the Comorin Area would strengthen and result in moderate to heavy rain over many parts of Karnataka for next two to three days.
Another Cyclonic Circulation is likely to develop over the Karnataka Coast around October 24. This system would give moderate to heavy rain over Coastal Karnataka between October 24 and 26. In fact, this will be one of the heaviest spells that the state would witness. Flash floods and waterlogging due to heavy rain cannot be ruled out during this period.
Meanwhile, interior parts of Karnataka would observe good rain and thundershower activities until October 26.
Since the beginning of October, so far, good rains have been lashing Interior Karnataka. Similarly, rains have picked up a good pace over Coastal Karnataka in the last few days.
As per the rainfall data available with Skymet from October 1 to 20, Coastal Karnataka is standing rain surplus at 54% while South Interior Karnataka at 56%. Surprisingly, North Interior Karnataka is standing large excess at 75% and all the credit goes to heavy rains appearing quite frequently over the region. The constant Trough with slight oscillation, persisting from Comorin Area to North Interior Karnataka is another reason for such good rainfall figures.
