The state of Tamil Nadu including Chennai normally observes lesser weather activity in the month of April. In fact, the first ten days of the month were almost dry. However, during the past day scattered pre Monsoon showers made an appearance over few parts of the state including capital city Chennai.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Kanyakumari recorded heavy rain to the tune of 40 mm, followed by Coonoor at 37.6 mm and Madurai 21 mm and Kodaikanal 7.2 mm rains. In the same time frame, Minambakkam observatory of Chennai recorded traces of rain.
In Tamil Nadu including Chennai, the intensity and spread of rain increases as Monsoon nears. As per Skymet Weather, the interior parts of the state, and south coastal stations of Tamil Nadu are expected to record scattered rain and thundershower activity. These pre Monsoon rains will be accompanied by strong gusty winds. In fact, the sky conditions will remain mainly cloudy. In fact, Chennai may also observe thunderstorm activity in pockets.
However, the north coastal stations of the state would remain mainly dry. As per weathermen, a trough of low lies over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast. Another trough is extending from Comorin region to Interior Tamil Nadu.
In view of these weather systems, the state would observe rainfall activity during the next two to three days. Moreover, southeasterly winds are blowing over the region hence the weather is warm and humid. The maximum temperatures in the central parts of the state would settle in mid-30s while the maximum temperatures in the interior districts would even cross 35°C mark.
