The state of Kerala gets to witness good rains during the month of October. Therefore, several districts of Kerala have been witnessing good amount of rains. These rains are due to the significant weather systems prevailing over the state, thus, moderate to heavy showers were observed over the coastal stations of Kerala. Besides this, the southern and interior districts of the state have been witnessing the comparatively lesser intensity of rains.
In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Kannur recorded rainfall of 36 mm, followed by Alappuzha 33.3 mm, Kozhikode 33.2 mm, Kochi 24 mm, Kottayam 23 mm, Karipur 19 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 13.5 mm and Thrissur 3 mm.

The reason for such good rains can be attributed to a trough which is seen extending from the east-central Arabian Sea up to Kerala. Further, this system is likely to become insignificant.
Due to this, north coastal areas of Kerala will witness moderate spells of rain during the next 24 hours. Whereas, the interior and southern districts of the state will get to observe light showers for the similar time period.
Districts such as Karipur, Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, and Kochi will continue to witness good rains for the next 24 hours.

As the system is moving away from the state, the rainfall activities are expected to reduce gradually over these regions. In addition, cloudy to the overcast sky is likely to prevail along with intermittent rains that may even occur after 24 hours.
As on October 12, the sub-divisional rainfall distribution statistics show that Kerala is rain deficient by 15%. In fact, if these rains continue to lash the entire state then, it is likely that the region may become surplus.
