The month of June is the onset month, however, this year, Monsoon arrived over Kerala early on May 28. Usually, the pace of Monsoon differs each year.
For instance, in the year 2015 until June 13, the country had recorded 53.1 mm of rain against 50.5 mm resulting in a surplus of 4 percent. Meanwhile, the entire month that year saw 189.5 mm of rains against 163.6 mm causing surplus rains of 16 percent.

Talking about 2016, the country saw 40 mm of rains against 50.5 mm causing a deficiency of 20 percent. The entire month recorded 145.6 mm of rains against 163.6 rains which resulted in a deficiency of 11 percent.
The year 2017 recorded 60 mm of rains against 50.5 mm until June 13 resulting in a surplus of 19 percent. In fact, the countrywide rains for June were surplus by 4 percent therefore resulting in 170.2 mm of rains against 163.6 mm.
Talking about the present rains, the country has recorded 19 percent surplus rains until June 13, which is similar to what was recorded last year during the same time period.
From this day onward, the normal daily rainfall amount will keep on increasing. From 5 mm per day, rains by the end of June will reach marginally above 7 mm.
Currently, the Monsoon surge is weak and will remain the same for at least a week or so. Usually, the systems that do develop in the Bay of Bengal as well as the Arabian Sea cause Monsoon rains to pick up. However, no weather system is expected to come up on either side in the coming days.
During this period, rainfall activity is expected to reduce throughout the country, however, June Monsoon rains will remain on track as the current surplus will make up for the reduced rains.
