The West Coast is one of the major contributors of Monsoon rains. Coastal Karnataka is one such pocket where good rains are recorded and receives even more rains than Konkan and Goa as well as Kerala. So much so that many areas record four digit rains in one month.

This year, Coastal Karnataka has received good Monsoon rains this year as compared to the last one. While the region ended on a deficit note in June 2015, surplus rains have been observed over the entire region.

At the end of June, Coastal Karnataka has received 896.1 mm rain against 821.8 mm resulting in the region recording a rain surplus of 9 percent. Thus, June has ended on a surplus note for the region and more rains are likely in the month of July.

While the first week of June resulted in subdued rains for the region, Monsoon showers picked up pace in the second week. Also, a peak in Monsoon rainfall activity was observed over Coastal Karnataka during the last week of June.

Cities including Honavar, Karwar, and Mangalore have recorded more rains than their monthly average. So much so that Honavar and Karwar received the highest monthly rains in a decade. While Agumbe has not been able to surpass its monthly rains, the city has recorded good rainfall in June.

Here is a look at the table that shows monthly rainfall figures (in mm) for cities in June in Coastal Karnataka:
