Jhansi observes flooding rains of 137 mm in 6 hours, breaks decade old record

The city of Jhansi has been witnessing heavy rains for the past 24 hours. In fact, even before that, rains had remained moderate over the city for the last few days at least. These rains had occurred in association with the low-pressure area which was persisting over the central parts of the country.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Jhansi recorded a good 41 mm of rainfall. However, rainfall intensity has increased by manifold over the Uttar Pradesh city and Jhansi has recorded a whopping 137 mm of rainfall in the last six hours between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm today. In fact, 137 mm of rains are the highest 24-hour rain amounts in a decade.

These rains have increased due to the northward shift of the trough which is now passing in close proximity of the city of Jhansi.

Moreover, now, rainfall intensity is expected to remain heavy over the city of Jhansi at least today. In fact, tomorrow also, rains will remain moderate in nature, thereafter, rains will reduce.

So far, the city of Jhansi has witnessed 282 mm of rains against its monthly average of 286.2 mm of rainfall. Thus, with a week to go, Jhansi will not only reach its monthly mean but also surpass its mean before the month of August comes to an end.
