January ends on a deficient note for Chennai, BengaluruLast week was slightly rainy for both the capital cities of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Both Chennai, as well as, Bengaluru witnessed some rains. However, the rainfall intensity over both these metropolitan cities was very light. In fact, Bengaluru only recorded traces of rain during this period.

These weather conditions are attributed to the trough of low which was extending from Bay of Bengal up to Tamil Nadu. The easterly wave had also activated during this period. However, now the weather system has moved away, resulting in the comeback of dry weather conditions.

During the month of January, Bengaluru recorded very little rains. Only 0.5 mm of rainfall has been witnessed. The monthly average for the city for January stands at 1.9 mm. Last year, the city had witnessed 4.4 mm of rain.

As far as Chennai is concerned, this January 5 mm of rainfall has been observed. All of this was recorded between January 26 and 27. The monthly average rainfall for Chennai stands at 22.5 mm.

This, both the state capitals have observed a deficient month of January in terms of rainfall. Now, the weather conditions will remain dry for Chennai and Bengaluru as no weather is expected to affect the region for at least the next few days.
