It was August 3, 1968 when the city of Jamshedpur recorded its highest rainfall of 205.6 mm. But in the last 24 hours, extremely heavy rainfall was witnessed over the city of Jamshedpur which brought the city’s rainfall statistic to stand at 219.4 mm.
This heavy and record breaking rainfall happened due to a depression over Canning that has moved. This weather system is presently seen close to Kolkata approximately 50km east of the city. The weather system is likely to move in a northwest direction.
In the last 24 hours we have seen the southern parts of Jharkhand receiving moderate to heavy rainfall at many places. The rainfall is likely to intensify over the Jharkhand region as the system is coming closer to the area.
The weather system is likely to pour heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours as well. This depression has also caused extremely high speed winds or gusty winds to prevail over the region. The winds are expected to reach up to a speed of 50-70kmph.
People are advised not go out without proper gear. Daily routine or work life has been disrupted and it is expected to be disrupted for the time being.
