Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Patna, Gaya, Kolkata to witness rain March 3 onward

The eastern states of the country have been witnessing intermittent rains for last many days. The state of West Bengal is largely excess. Region-wise, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim is largely excess by 117% and Gangetic West Bengal by 162%. For this winter season, East Uttar Pradesh is rain surplus by 16% and Bihar by 35%.

Despite of excess rain in some areas, there are certain areas which fall under rain deficit category. For instance, Jharkhand and Odisha are rain deficit by 20% and 24%, respectively. Now, another spell of rain is expected to commence over the eastern parts of the country by March 3. Initially the rains will commence over East Uttar Pradesh by the evening of March 3 due to the formation of a confluence zone which would extend from East Uttar Pradesh up till West Bengal. During this time, the southeasterly humid winds from Bay of Bengal would merge with dry winds from northwest.

The rains are expected to increase on March 4 and during this time light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells is expected over Gangetic West Bengal, North Odisha and Jharkhand. Kolkata, 24 Parganas, Midnapore, Bankura, Balasore, Jamshedpur and Ranchi would be a witness to these upcoming wet spells.

Whereas, scattered rains would be witnessed over Gaya, Nawada, Aurangabad and Banka in Bihar. These rain activities are expected to continue up till March 5. By March 6, rains would be on a receding end. However, Gangetic West Bengal might continue with scattered rain and thundershowers.
