Rain in West Bengal and Jharkhand

A Cyclonic Circulation over Southwest Uttar Pradesh now lies over centre Uttar Pradesh and a Trough from this system is moving across North Bihar. Now, a Cyclonic Circulation is over Northeast Bay of Bengal and is extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.

In the next 24 hours, a Low-Pressure Area is expected to form over the North Bay of Bengal.

In the past 24 hours as well many parts of Jharkhand and West Bengal recorded moderate rain with isolated heavy spells. At present, we expect intermittent moderate rains to continue over most parts of Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours.

An east-west Trough is likely to weaken and thus the intensity of rain is likely to reduce after 24 hours. Even Sub-Himalayan West Bengal will also receive heavy to very heavy rains during the next 24 hours.

Along with these rains, there is a possibility of localised flooding as well. The northern parts of West Bengal are expected to see marginal improvement post 24 hours. However, as the Low-Pressure Area may become more marked after the formation, rainfall activity over Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal will continue for a week wherein the intensity will be mainly moderate at many places.

Cooch Behar, Malda, Dinajpur, Shanti Niketan, Siliguri in West Bengal stand a chance to witness heavy rain while in Jharkhand Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Deoghar may see heavy rainfall during next 24 hours.

In the past 24 hours, significant rain was recorded over Daltonganj and Ranchi of 24 mm and 20 mm, respectively. While Midnapore, Bankura, Birbhum, Asansol, Diamond Harbour and Malda recorded 34 mm, 21 mm, 23 mm, 40 mm, 16 mm, and 7 mm respectively.
